Our Story

We speak for the trees...
Plymouth State University’s Adopt-a-Tree Program began as an idea in 2023 and grew with the enthusiasm of all involved. People simply fall in love with the trees on PSU campus tree tours. Steven Sweedler served as the university’s horticulturist for many years until his retirement in 2011 and is responsible for many of the breathtaking plantings. In 2017 Environmental Science and Policy students began offering tree tours and there has been ongoing interest. Presently, there is a need to create a funding source for maintaining trees, as well as bring attention to PSU’s unique collection of trees. PSU’s Adopt-a-Tree Program will also provide a way to honor friends and family members by allowing individuals to adopt a tree in someone's name to celebrate their life or to mark a special occasion. PSU’s trees are often a destination for returning alumni and an attractive feature for new visitors and prospective students.

Who Are We
Adopt-A-Tree Plymouth State is a community-driven initiative launched in 2023 with a mission to preserve the natural beauty of our campus while honoring those who cherish its trees and culture. In partnership with the PSU Tree Committee, we create meaningful connections between students, alumni, and the community through tree tours, educational programs, and generous donations. Whether it’s fostering appreciation for our campus greenery or ensuring its longevity for future generations, we are dedicated to keeping the spirit of PSU’s trees alive.
